Getting around town

It’s simply convenient.

From the international airport, it’s only a 20-minute drive to downtown. A variety of shuttles, taxis and buses are available to pick you up at the airport and take you to your destination — or you can rent a car.

Driving in Calgary is quite straight forward: downtown roads are ordered numerically, with streets running north and south, and avenues running east and west.

What’s the C-Train?

The backbone of Calgary’s Transit system is the C-Train, a light-rail train system that runs NW to SE and SW to NE. Over 280,000 passengers ride the system every weekday. Since 2001, the C-Train has been completely emission free — the only one of its kind in North America. Best of all, the downtown core is a "fare-free" zone, allowing passengers to travel between office towers, restaurants and events free of charge. The University of Calgary, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and the Stampede grounds are some of the major stops outside city centre.

Pedestrian friendly

Calgary has the world’s largest elevated, climate-controlled pedestrian pathway — 16 km (10 miles) long, to be exact. The Plus 15 (as we call it) links over 100 downtown office buildings and shopping centres. In most buildings, the Plus 15 can be accessed on the second floor — watch for the blue +15 signage.
