Powering Calgary with a New Kind of Energy

Meetings + Conventions Calgary is excited to host the Canada Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) Conference and Exhibition November 1-3, 2016 at the BMO Centre. The event is Canada’s largest annual Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition.

Welcoming CanWEA back to the city for the first time in 20 years, Calgary is excited to host an event that brings attention to the renewable energy industry in Canada. There will be over 1,500 delegates from around the world engaging with industry experts, political leaders and key stakeholders to discuss the main opportunities and challenges currently faced by Canada’s wind energy industry.

“As the city goes through changes in its economic landscape, bringing in meetings and conventions from new industries helps to diversify the economy through knowledge transfer and growth in intellectual capital,” says Brian Slot, Director Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Events at Travel Alberta. “Calgary is known for the oil and gas industry however conference’s like CanWEA bring increased opportunity and awareness to the renewable energy industry,” Wind turbines now operate in every Canadian province and Territory and in the last five years, Canada has seen more wind energy capacity installed than any other form of electricity.

Meetings + Conventions Calgary is a partnership between the Calgary Hotel Association and the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre. It operates as a sales and marketing organization with a mandate to assist meeting planners, corporate clients and association executives interested in Calgary as a prime location for their meetings, conventions and incentive programs.
